About The diitiidʔaaʔtx̣ people

The Ditidaht people live on the west coast of Vancouver Island, British Columbia, Canada. Our homeland includes the land, waters, and mountains surrounding Nitinaht Lake, which is actually a long inlet of the Pacific Ocean, and the ocean coast to either side of the Nitinaht Narrows, from Pachena Point to Bonilla Point.

Historically, our people fished in the ocean, lakes, and rivers, and harvested the fruits of the land, including wood, berries, and the cedar tree, moving to fishing stations, winter villages, and other sites with the seasons.

We continue to learn, teach, and revere our native culture and language. These are passed down from our ancestors, through our Elders, to our children. We invite you to learn and to enjoy our unique and beautiful language.
